We’re playing catch up with all our blogs from this year so why not start with our first engagement session of the year! Whenever we talk to a couple about doing an engagement shoot the first thing you discuss is location. I mean, engagements aren’t just a photoshoot, they’re much more special then that! Not just any location will do. We always try to do engagements somewhere meaningful for the couple. So where to do an engagement shoot at the end of January? How about where the couple actually met! University of Delaware! Have you been there in the winter, it’s G O R G E O U S !!
Theres only 1 thing I love more than a great place to take pictures and thats a couple in love! Steph & Alex have that love story we all long for, the one thats written in books and movies. We had the BEST time at the engagement shoot and we couldn’t be more excited for the wedding in October!!!!!! Check out some of the photos from the shoot and take a look at Steph & Alex’s adorable story!
When & how did you meet?
“We first met as freshmen at the University of Delaware, we lived in the same hall! We didn’t start dating until our sophomore year.”
How did you start dating?
“Alex asked me to be his girlfriend on January 21st, 2011 while on snug ski lift one night at Blue Mountain after a few months of casual college dating.”
Who said "I love you" first & how?
“I think Alex said it first but too many late college nights and drinks to remember exactly, it was 8 years ago!“
When did you each know the other was "the one"?
“After a couple years living together in Boston, we slowly began to discuss in specific detail what we each wanted in life and with a family. At first, we had very opposing dreams... Generally speaking, Alex dreamt more of a large family in the suburbs while Steph dreamt of a city life without kids. Sometime in 2015 this conversation came to a head and ultimately we acknowledged that we would rather compromise on our visions in order to accommodate each other, instead of ending the relationship and leading separate lives. Our desire and ability to honestly communicate and compromise was a huge turning point in our relationship and we have never been happier as a result. “
Tell us about the proposal!
“Alex planned not only a gorgeous proposal at Steph’s favorite spot on the planet, but he also orchestrated a massive surprise weekend which included 30+ of our closest friends and family. Saturday, September 1st, 2018 Alex got down on one knee on Stephs long time family lake dock. Right after she said yes, her 3 best friends, both sets of parents, siblings, and Steph’s grandparents all jumped out from behind the boat shed, having witnessed and photographed the whole thing! We then got in the car and drove to an Airbnb where the remaining 25ish people were waiting (all a surprise to Steph) with more love, cameras, champagne and hugs! Everyone stayed for an incredible activity filled Labor Day Weekend to join us in celebration!”
Tell us about the wedding plans!
“Wedding planning is tough but constantly exciting! We’ve made the majority of the large decisions such as date, venue, wedding party, photographer 😍, and colors. We knew we wanted a fall wedding and knew we wanted to get back close to our college campus, where we first met and fell in love. We run every decision by each other and try to discuss each detail before asking for others opinions. We could not be more excited to be tying the knot at Rosewood Farms! When we toured and ultimately secured our date, the venue was still in construction mode so it has been like watching a dream come true as the venue gets closer and closer to being entirely finished.”
Since Steph & Alex had flown in for the engagement session we decided to also take a 10 minute trip to their fabulous venue Rosewood Farms and take a few more shots!
What are your favorite interests and activities to do together?
Snowboarding, boating, self guided walking and bike tours, sushi dates! We both love traveling the world and have been to Costa Rica, Spain, England, Mexico and Croatia twice together.
What hardships did your relationship have to overcome?
“After almost two years of dating in college, Steph studied abroad for a semester in Italy. Although it was only 3 months, this long distance proved to be a huge challenge for us. Fast forward to one week after graduating, we packed up our apartments at UD and moved to Boston together! Living together for the first time, while in a foreign city with no close friends was another huge challenge and testament to our relationship.”
Alright alright alright so we got some awesome shots at DU, amazing shots at Rosewood…wheres the sunset shots?! Finnnnnnnee heres just a few ;) And no those birds aren’t photoshopped
Anything else you want to add?
“We are tying the knot a couple years sooner than we had originally expected. We’ve known for a couple years (since sometime in 2015) that we would someday get married however due to uncontrollable life events, we decided last year to move up our time table slightly in order to better guarantee the majority of our family would be able to attend. We’re soooo excited to be working with Jes at JAW studios and can’t wait for 10/18/19!”
